So here we are, a forum for older workers to discuss finding meaningful paid and unpaid things to do once the working world becomes less keen on us.
Why?
It's clear what a person's 'main career' is, and what 'retirement' is. Some people work like trojans in demand occupations and then one day they stop and retire.
But between the two states there is a third state. When for a whole range of reasons in the worker's control and outside it, work has tailed off, threatens to tail off, or has become less fun for the worker.
Those are the elements this group seeks to address. Preventing lesser work due to age. Winning work capitalising on experience. Exploring the working off-ramp, the search for meaning, a strategy to combat ageism and the desire to delay 'retirement day'.
Isn't there already help out there for people in this boat?
Some, but it's patchy. And as people of pensionable age are already the target of scammers (they have money are are less tech savvy) it's hard to know what and who to trust. BBC Article:

So what's the plan?
A free forum aimed at 55+ folk who want to work, paid or unpaid, with an opportunity to share ideas, leads, promote valid training and market services, debunk scams and nonsense and offer a little human interaction and solidarity.
It may well start with interim managers (I'm one and I'm connected to many) but the issue affects workers irrespective of section and function, so should help any type of worker.
So here's the forum. It's up (but pretty empty). It's on the ProBoards platform which is a reputable forum platform that allows people to set up their own forums, paid for by an unobtrusive advertising banner. It's a good tried and tested system which means groups, charities and societies don't have to set up their own websites to do this.
Please open a login to discuss, using your real name or a pseudonym, either is fine.
Why not use LinkedIn Groups?
LinkedIn Groups have had user and moderator functionality stripped out over recent years. It's not a good option for assembling resources and promoting discussion.
Any other intentions?
If this works, there are other possibilities beyond a forum, forming partnerships for training, routes to market, lobbying and so, but walking before running.
Beginnings are such delicate times.

- Share tips and marketing strategies in order to better sell the benefits of the grey hairs (or no hairs) of experience. Reducing the fall-off of business.
- Highlighting bear traps to avoid wasted time and cost in hunting for work as an older worker (including reviews of scams and schemes).
- For those who want to tone down but not stop working, an exploration of not-for-profit, coaching, mentoring and/or charitable activities.
